Drie verschillende bevolkingsgroepen, Bosniakken, Serviërs en Kroaten en het land word geregeerd door 3 presidenten, dit is voortgekomen uit de burgeroorlog begin jaren 90. Dit geeft het land politieke en economische uitdagingen. Veel burgers trekken weg voor een beter leven in Europa. Hoewel het een ingewikkeld land is, is het land onontdekt met prachtige natuur en cultuur, vriendelijke en gastvrije mensen en échte Bosnië koffie!

In dit land speelt zich ook een vluchtelingencrisis af die voor velen misschien nog onbekender is. Bosnië behoort tot de Balkan route. Een route die vluchtelingen over land afleggen naar Europa.

De crisis startte hier in 2018. In dit jaar reisden er veel vluchtelingen via de Balkan route. Dit waren voornamelijk mannen. Vanwege de strenge grens bewaking en het geweld aan de grenzen met Kroatië (Europa), kwamen veel vluchtelingen vast te zitten in Bosnië.

In kamp Blazuj, het mannen kamp in Sarajevo was plaats voor 1700 mensen terwijl hier 4000 mensen waren. Daarnaast verbleven er veel mensen op de straat en op pleinen in en rondom de stad.

Vanaf 2021 vinden migranten makkelijker hun weg naar Europa. Ondanks de strenge grensbewaking neemt het geweld wel af. De grensbewaking kenmerkt zich nu voornamelijk door het afschrikken van de vluchtelingen met schoten in de lucht, het afpakken van alle bezittingen die ze hebben en dan met niks terug de grens over sturen Bosnië in.

Verreweg de meeste vluchtelingen zijn in Bosnië op doorreis en verblijven hier het liefst zo kort mogelijk.  Dit maakt dat de situatie hier constant in beweging is. Andere oorzaken hiervan zijn: regels die landen aanscherpen of versoepelen en de weersomstandigheden.

Together with the JRS organization, we operate in Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia. Inside and outside the camps, we organize (social) activities to focus on something other than "the game"—the game of conquering the final border that must be fought over to enter Europe.

On the edge of the city there are two camps: the men's camp (Blazuj) and the family camp (Usivak) where the minors also stay.

The work:

• In the men's camp, we run a barbershop. Here, men can come with a barber to get their hair cut or beard shaved. This restores a great deal of dignity to these men. Our job is primarily to coordinate the day-to-day running of the barbershop. There's also time for social activities with the men. We see these men as human beings and sit alongside them!

• When necessary, we roll up our sleeves and help other organizations in the camp.

• At the family camp, we work in the community kitchen. This is a kitchen where people can prepare their own meals. This is in addition to the meals they receive from the government. Here, we ensure everything runs smoothly, provide basic ingredients, and share our time with the people.

• Together with the local church and several other international organizations, we run Hope Community. This is a center where migrants can come for coffee, tea, games, a chat, and hope. Hope Community's goal is to offer these people a safe, warm, and open space outside the camp.

The missions to Bosnia consist of three-week trips. The cost of a three-week mission is €915, excluding food and drinks, and includes airfare, accommodation, use of CRR transportation, travel insurance, and administration fees.
